Switzerland and the Rhine

Basel and river cruising

rain 68 °F

Today we checked out of the Radisson Blu in Lucerne and headed for Basel, where we would tour the city and board AMACello for our trip north to Amsterdam. It was a pretty ride the 80 or so km to Basel, although showery as we passed through the mountains. Basel is a relatively big city and industrialized, but again interesting with several old churches, many museums and an upscale shopping district. This part of Switzerland is primarily Protestant and when the Catholics were forced out during the reformation, they took most of the church art and sculpture work with them. After a wonderful lunch we boarded the ship and started our journey on the Rhine.
