The adventure begins

sunny 85 °F

The adventure to China has started, although not without some surprises. We flew out of Charleston this morning expecting to get to Detroit for a 10 hour layover for the non-stop to Beijing. (Only one non-stop to Detroit per day from CHS). As we got into the pattern in Detroit the pilot said they had shut down 3 of four runways to fix potholes that had just sprung up - memories of the Pennsylvania Turnpike? Anyway we had only about 15 minutes of extra fuel on board, so we diverted to Cleveland for some gas and a new plan. The runways got fixed quickly, but we were put on a 90 minute ground hold as DTW tried to reduce the backlog. Anyway, after almost a 5 hour flight from Charleston to Detroit, we managed to kill some of our layover time! In the Crown Room now writing this. The relatively new Terminal A in Detroit is quite nice and the Delta Crown room is huge! On to Beijing - 14 hours in the air!!!
