Sapphire Princess

semi-overcast 69 °F

We arrive in Ketchikan early in the morning to a grey and cloudy day, but no rain. Ketchikan is the rainiest city in the USA with an average rain fall of more than 130 inches. We came prepared with rain gear, but didn't need it as the sun came out a little after noon, and the day became one for the Chamber of Commerce. Instead of doing any organized tour, we opted for a walking tour around the loop of Ketchikan catching the Ketchikan Museum ($3) and the Totem Museum ($5) as well as some great scenery. If you like to walk, a stroll through the village is as good as any shore excursion. We got back on board, had some pizza for lunch and then headed to our balcony for the 2:00pm departure and the continuation of our inside passage voyage during a bright sunny day. Sea life included some Pacific Bottlenosed Dolphins swimming along side the ship and one lone humpback whale the blew. I was able to get a picture. The rest of the day was spent enjoying the scenery. We ate in the dining room for Italian night and then enjoyed the performance of the guest comedian/magician before turning in for the night.
